I was able to find some pretty good (although broad) results with the following search in the database called Education Database (ProQuest). You can click on the name that I’ve turned into a link and log into it with the same username and password as your MYVU or Canvas accounts.
Once you are in the database, type the keyword parent in the first box, engagement in the second box, add a row to get another box, and type child in that newly added box. Click on the check boxes for “Full-text” and “Peer reviewed” so that all the results will be articles you have full access to and are of high academic quality. Click search to see your result list. Here you can still use filters on the left hand side to adjust the dates of the results and more.
From the result list, you can click on a title of the article and you will see the full-text of the article. On the right hand side, you can then email the article to yourself, print it, get the citation for it to put it into your reference list, etc. As you look at articles, notice keywords that might be useful as you narrow down your topic (engagement in the classroom, special education, literacy, community, etc.).
